Transavia cancellation insurance is a service offered by the eponymous airline to protect you financially in the event of unforeseen circumstances. In this article, we'll explain what this insurance covers, its exclusions and other useful information, such as how to take out the policy and how to claim compensation.

What does Transavia cancellation insurance cover?

Transavia cancellation insurance offers you comprehensive coverage in the event of cancellation of your trip. In accordance with the terms and conditions of the contract, you will be reimbursed in the following situations:

  • Cancellation before departure: This covers the total cost of your flight (excluding insurance premiums and airport taxes).
  • Trip cancellation in the event of early return: If you have to interrupt your trip due to a situation specified in the general terms and conditions, you will be reimbursed for the cost of the return flight (excluding insurance premiums and airport taxes).
  • Cancellation with extended warranty: This coverage includes reimbursement of the total cost of the ticket, cancellation fees, fees already paid on tickets and not reimbursed by Transavia, change fees and the surcharge invoiced by Transavia for partial cancellation.
  • Cancellation in the event of illness due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19): If you become ill with COVID-19 within 28 days of the start of your trip, this insurance also covers your cancellation.

These guarantees allow you to travel with complete peace of mind, knowing that you will be financially protected in the event of cancellation. For a more detailed overview, we advise you to consult the general conditions and the IPID sheet of the insurance policy.

You are covered worldwide except Cuba.

What are the exclusions of Transavia cancellation insurance?

It is important to note that certain situations are not covered by Transavia cancellation insurance. Here are the main exclusions:

  • Travel to/from Cuba and/or France.
  • Accidents intentionally caused by the insured.
  • Losses caused by situations such as war, civil war, riots, civil commotion, hostage-taking, epidemics, natural disasters or pollution.

In addition, please note the following specific exclusions to coverage:

  • Pre-existing medical conditions diagnosed prior to the trip booking date (or the start date of the insurance period) that could result in trip cancellation.
  • Cancellation due to the absence of passports, visas or permits required for the trip, as well as required vaccinations.
  • Non-compliance with flight check-in and/or boarding deadlines, as well as costs already reimbursed by the airline or third parties.
  • Theft of baggage and personal effects caused by forgetfulness, negligence, or items left unattended in a public place or stored in a common area.
  • Strikes that have begun or have been the subject of prior notice before the contract is taken out or the plane ticket purchased.

It is essential to take these exclusions into account when taking out Transavia cancellation insurance. There are also others for very specific cases, so don't hesitate to refer to the general conditions documents.

How much does Transavia cancellation insurance cost?

Transavia cancellation insurance prices vary according to the length of your trip and the number of people covered. As a general rule, the cost of basic cancellation insurance is less than 10% of the price of your flight ticket. This means you can benefit from additional protection for your trip at an affordable price. We recommend that you check the specific fares when booking your flight to get an accurate estimate of the cost of Transavia cancellation insurance for your trip. The best way to find out the price of insurance in a specific situation is to simulate the purchase on the Transavia website.

How do I take out Transavia cancellation insurance?

To purchase Transavia cancellation insurance, simply select it when you book your trip with the airline. When you book online, you'll have the option of adding cancellation insurance to your basket. You will then be asked to provide the necessary information and pay the insurance premium. Once the purchase is complete, you will receive an insurance certificate confirming your coverage.

What are the effective dates of Transavia cancellation insurance?

Transavia insurance cancellation cover takes effect on the date you book your trip, or on the effective date shown on your insurance certificate, whichever is later. This cover remains in force until the date of departure of your trip, or until the end date of the cover indicated on your insurance certificate. In this way, you benefit from complete coverage for the entire period leading up to your trip.
