Business Travel Carbon Barometer 2022
Introduction
Carbon neutrality is a fundamental issue for all companies today. Yet, transparency on carbon consumption data is still extremely limited.
This is why we have decided to create the first carbon barometer for business travel, to help companies objectify their efforts to be more environmentally responsible.
The aim of this barometer is to provide companies of all sizes and in all sectors with a baseline against which to compare their carbon expenditure.
This report was based on the consumption data of 300+ companies and over 10,000 travelers, with the aim of providing an objective reference base for all companies.

Methodology
All measurements have been reduced to an annual carbon consumption per traveler and aim to provide transparency on consumption levels by sector, company size, or department/team.
The calculation of carbon consumption was carried out on the basis of recognized methodologies from ICAO and ADEME.
Key Messages
- The average business traveller consumes 0.7 tons of CO² per year, which is 30% of the EU's recommended consumption per person
- Consumption per traveller increases with the size of the company, and can be up to 2x higher for large companies than for SME
- The biggest contributors are the salespeople, the operation, and the direction
